The highway, which runs eastwards from Palermo along the
coast, eventually reaches the
foothills of the Madonie Mountains.
Then, after a few miles, as if it was a mirage, it enters
the luxuriant oasis of Scillato, a small district, which
is located inside the protected area of the Madonie Park.
In Scillato, water runs copiously from two important
springs, thus blessing the valley with an asset, which is
becoming rare and increasingly precious in the region.
Thanks to this favourable circumstance, the orange trees,
which have been growing in this area since the beginning
of the 11th century, are presently very renowned.
